wg2.jpg (39138 bytes)Among the cool Willow Trees and tall Eucalyptus, and along the lazy Sacramento River sits the charming historical towns of Walnut Grove and Locke still reminiscent of early days.   The original storefront buildings front line the street, looking out upon the river.  Behind are the different sections of homes that marks the history of the immigration to the area.  The Chinese, and later, Japanese developed and continue to contribute to the rich ethnic diversity.  Only one half mile from the historic community of Locke-the first remaining rural community built by the Chinese, Walnut Grove also boasts that the majority of its original buildings are still standing. The Walnut Grove Area Chamber of Commerce has distributed pamphlets at many of the area businesses that enable you to take a   walking tour of both Walnut Grove and Locke, locate retail and entertainment businesses, as well as goods and services available.

Walnut Grove is located some 30 miles south of Sacramento, 30 miles north of Stockton, and 70 miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay area.  For a detailed map, click here. The nearby waterways in Walnut Grove provide an endless source of recreation; from fishing to water-skiing.  After a long day of relaxation, you are sure to enjoy dining and lodging at one of the many fine restaurants.  If you are looking for a particular address or phone number, check the members page.   The members are listed by category and are a valuable resource in the community.
